Salmon and Sea Trout Exploitation

Members must comply both with club fishing rules, as set out in the club Byelaws, and Natural Resources Wales Byelaws.

Following years of warnings about declines in salmon and sea trout and the need for voluntary restraint in the exploitation of these fish, NRW found it necessary in 2017 to consult on and then propose mandatory Catch and Release for salmon and various Byelaw amendments.

In the light of many objections, Welsh Government has now called a public inquiry.

“the inquiry has been arranged for 10:00am on Tuesday 15th January 2019 at the Elephant & Castle Hotel, Broad Street, Newtown, Powys, SY16 2BQ and will sit for 12 days (excluding weekends & Mondays) and you are welcome to attend and speak at the event. The appointed Inspector is Mr Declan Beggan BSc (Hons) MSc DipTp DipMan MRTPI. Prior to the inquiry, a Pre-Inquiry meeting (PIM) will be held to agree procedural and administrative arrangements.”
